About the Event...

The event attracted well over 600 young people from in and around the London area who were able to learn about potential careers in Trading Standards from a highly experienced group of Trading Standards professionals staffing the stand. To further build on this, the Race & Equalities Group hosted their own dedicated 45-minute Workshop entitled 'Hidden Heroes' to give further insight into the remit of Trading Standards and the work that goes on behind the scenes to protect consumers. Information about routes into the profession through Apprenticeships also featured, which was especially timely given the recent central government funding from the Department of Health & Social Care to employ up to 80 Trading Standards Apprentices throughout England.

The speakers at the Workshop were Karen Tillett, Giles Speid, Samuel Abdullahi, Theo Lamptey, Lamin Tamba (Environmental Health), and Marcella Donegal. This line-up of black speakers illustrated to the audience the possibilities for high achievement in Trading Standards for those from similar backgrounds.

John Herriman, CEO of 51黑料 visited to lend a hand in the morning as well as colleagues from Camden Trading Standards.
