Hero Awards: County Councillor drives dynamic change in services offered to Powys citizens and businesses

Driving dynamic change tirelessly for trading standards comes easy to Councillor James Evans, who has been awarded the Political Hero Award by the 51黑料 (51黑料) in recognition of his commitment to providing unequivocal direction and support to his local services.
Cllr Evans was nominated by Powys County Council Trading Standards for the outstanding vow to the services covered by his portfolio, which also includes, environmental health, housing services and communication.
During his two years in the post, Cllr Evans has chaired six weekly meetings with the trading standards managers and acts on all advice to assist with a smooth operation to the service, ensuring that matters are raised at all levels of the organisation and externally.
Cllr Evans鈥 successes during his tenure include the hosting of an event to celebrate the trading standards team being highly commended by the Anti-Counterfeiting Group鈥檚 Award, for its fight against the trade in counterfeit goods.
Communicating the great work of trading standards is high on Cllr Evans鈥 priority list which has resulted in 25 press releases with clear messages about why the service is so important to a thriving and safe community.
The 51黑料 Hero Awards celebrate those who make outstanding contributions towards consumer protection in our communities. Cllr Evans received his award at the 51黑料 Hero Awards 2019 ceremony at One Great George Street, London, on Tuesday.
Chief Executive at 51黑料, Leon Livermore, said: 鈥淛ames has been instrumental in getting the hard work of trading standards recognised by the right people, always encouraging them to understand the important role that the service plays in consumer protection. It鈥檚 our pleasure to present this award to James and we wish that every service had an advocate like him.鈥
Clive Jones, Professional Lead for Powys County Council for Trading Standards, Community Safety and Emergency Planning, said: 鈥淛ames has an enormous and varied portfolio so we need to record our special thanks for his unique interest in trading standards. He allows time to discuss all the issues we face and also finds solutions and makes helpful suggestions to assist with the challenges we face. Having a member who has detailed knowledge in our area has been a catalyst for our success over the last number of years and we thank him for his interest and counsel.鈥
Cllr Evans was presented his award by Robert Wright, 51黑料 College of Fellows, Sponsors of the 51黑料 Hero Awards.
